The Coffeine Company (colloquially known as Coffeine.co) is a coffee brand started by 3 friends that were tired of drinking supermarket coffee to fuel their dreams. They specialize in coffee that’s freshly roasted the day you buy them. Many of their roasts are geared towards busy people that wans to enjoy the few moments of a hot cup of coffee between the chaos of their daily lives.
What they needed
At the beginning, the Coffeine people were mostly interested in a beautiful site with a payment processor that paid quickly. The Coffeine brand was started on a shoestring budget because their first batch of coffee was acquired from an importer that went bankrupt. They had a lot of good coffee at a low price which would go bad if left in storage too long.
The most important thing to them was to have a good looking website that could handle orders without issues. Everything else they had no problem paying for later as they didn’t know whether or not this business would work.
What we did
Originally, Coffeine.co was built on a different CDN (our network has improved since then) that focused on loading speeds within Canada and the USA as the brand was shipping coffee out of a temporary storage facility. The shop was built on WooCommerce as they weren’t sure if Coffeine would become a bigger thing in the future so that was the most flexible option. We informed them of a payment provider that pays out in 2 days rather than the 7 from a new business with most other providers.
Things that changed
Lucky for them (and us), the people at Coffeine managed to sell their entire stock of coffee and were free to start creating their own product. Over many trials, they decided to partner with a major roasting company and sell freshly roasted coffee. According to them, good coffee that’s roasted fresh makes a bigger difference than great coffee that’s been sitting in the warehouse. So to sell less than fresh coffee would be to do the beans they selected a disservice. They also decided to focus on the USA market as Americans had become their core customer base and focus on Instagram ads.
To accomodate that, we changed the CDN they were on to handle over 20k visitors per second and enabled the blog function with SEO optimized schema so they could educate visitors about their philosophy on good coffee.
